After the ridiculous looking semi-pulled back eyes of the 2009-2011 Ranger models, Ford finally came to their senses and went back to the drawing board.
Here comes the 2012 Ford Ranger with its new brute face, strong chin, tons of power and technology under the hood! Set to be announced at the 2012 Manila International Auto Show on March 29 – April 1, this is definitely Something to Look 4ward to!
A couple of pictures has been floating around and based on the exterior, minor changes were made on the back and sides of the truck. A slightly updated tail light, same side air vents but showing the 6-speed badge (yes you read it right, 6-speed, but more on that later) and the door handles looks the same.
They did, however, focused on the front which gives Ford that bully aura it is known for. No more fancy swirly girly lines here. It’s all about keeping it clean, straight and tidy. Along with its wide masculine grill this is one heavyweight contender.
For the interior, it has the same Ford ambiance keeping it real simple and modern. There are 3 engine variants to look 4ward to:
- a 2.2-liter Duratorq TDCi, four-cylinder, turbo-charged diesel producing 148 horsepower
- a 3.2-liter Duratorq TDCi, inline-five, turbo-charged diesel giving 197 horsepower
- a 2.5-liter Duratec four-cylinder gasoline engine making 164 horsepower
Both of the diesel variants comes with 6-speed automatic and manual transmissions, while the gas engine is set to 5-speed. I was able to stumble on some specs for the 2.2L variant, which is probably the first to be available in the Philippines:
2012 Ford Ranger 2.2L Duratorq TDCi DOHC 24V
- Maximum Power: 150HP @ 3,700 rpm
- Maximum Torque: 375Nm @ 1,500-2,500 rpm
- 6-Speed AT Grade Control Logic
- Dynamic Stability Control
- Emergency Brake Assist
- Hill Start Assist and Hill Descent Control
- Brakes: Ventilated Discs/Drums
- 17" Alloy Wheels
- 4.2" LCD Multi-Information Display
- In-Dash DVD/CD/AM/FM/MP3/USB/Bluetooth/
- iPod Connectivity/Voice Control/6 Speakers
- Dual Zone Auto Climate Control
- Dual Front SRS Airbags
- ABS | HSA | HDC | TCS
- Rear Parking Sensors
- Keyless Entry System
- Security Alarm
No official SRP yet from Ford, but my guesstimate is around the 900k-1M mark for the 2.2L and 2.5L. And for the Wildtrak 3.2L version, it could set you back to 1.1M-1.3M.
